San Antonio Wheelmen Ride Schedule

Key to listings: Letters in parentheses indicate general direction of ride start in relation to San Antonio, e.g. (N) means Northside or north of the city. Letters in brackets indicate terrain: R=rolling; H=hilly; F=flat.

We welcome cyclists of all abilities to come ride with us, but please arrive at least ten minutes prior to the posted start time; start times indicate the time at which riders roll out of the parking lot. Be sure to arrive in time to sign in, grab a map, air up your tires, and maybe socialize.

Please note that riders under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult on any Wheelmen ride.

Saturday, April 30, 8:00 am, Comal Elementary Ride (NE) [R to H]
Routes of 28, 48, 55, and 72 miles available. Ride up Krueger Canyon to the hills of Canyon Lake and then cruise back to the school on River Road. The longer route includes Devil’s Backbone/Purgatory loop. Start at the parking lot across from Comal Elementary School. Take I-35 N to Exit 177, then left to FM 482, take a right on 482 and continue about 4 miles to the school. Contact: Jose Rojas

Saturday, May 7, 8:00 am, Bullis Park Ride (N) [R to H]. Routes of 21, 34, 48 and 66 miles.
Ride some familiar roads from a great starting spot. Meet at Bullis County Park on Blanco Road between Borgfeld and Old Blanco roads. From Loop 1604, take Blanco Road north about 8 miles. Inside the park, please park only on paved areas. If parking inside is full, park outside along the road. Contact: JD Simpson, 210/862-6559

Sunday, May 8, 8:00 am, Woman Hollering Creek Ride (E) [F to R].  Route of 26 to 70 miles.
This popular` ride features the rolling farmland east of Bexar County, fresh hot pies at the stop in New Berlin and, of course, the famous Woman Hollering Creek. Meet at Judson High School in Converse. From Loop 1604, turn right (west) on Rocket Lane at the stop light. When Rocket Lane merges to Schaeffer, continue straight to the parking lot on the right across from Norris Drive.  Contact:  Cliff Hickel, 210/884-9470

Saturday, May 14, 8:00 am, Boerne "Is this the last hill?" Ride (NNW) [H].
Routes vary from 25-70 miles and go through Comfort, Sisterdale, and Waring-Welfare and for the really stout-of-heart, Old Hwy 9 to Luckenbach. The Boerne ride is one of the longest running rides offered monthly by the Wheelmen for good reason - the scenery! The hills are challenging and definitely not for the faint-of-heart. The fun begins at the Boerne City Hall, 402 E. Blanco, in downtown Boerne. Take I-10 West to Business 87 (exit 542) and continue north on Main Street to the light at E. Sunday, May 15, 8:00 am, Comfort Ladybird Loop (NW) [R to H]. Routes of 22, 32, 41 and 56 miles.Ride some of the very best roads within easy access of San Antonio. Try the super "traditional" options to the west of Comfort or travel north to the land of the Hell's Angels and Waylon Jennings on the 56-mile "Ladybird Loop," which heads north past the Bat Tunnel toward Fredericksburg. There are limited store stops, so please carry water and snacks. Meet at Comfort City Park at the intersection of 5th and Broadway in Comfort. Take I-10 West to the Comfort/Hwy 87 exit # 524. Take Hwy 87 into town and follow Hwy 27. Turn left on Broadway to the park. Contact: Andy Hinck, 210/725-4438

Saturday, May 21, 8:00 am, Big Joshua Creek Ride (NW) [R to H]
Routes of 29, 39, and 54 miles. A beautiful Hill Country Loop with stops in Center Point, Comfort and Waring. An optional cruise up Skyline Drive awaits those with strong legs and low gears. Meet across the street from PoPo's Restaurant in Welfare. Please try to keep the area directly across the highway from the restaurant open for the lunch customers. Sunday, May 22, 8:00 am, Rebecca Creek Ride (N) [R to H] Routes of 16, 22, 32, and 48 miles.
The new & improved Rebecca now includes water stops on all routes. The short routes are rolling, while the 32 & 48 mile rides have lots of hills. Ride starts at Bulverde Elementary School. Take US 281 North to the FM 1863/Bulverde exit. Turn left and go 2 miles on Bulverde Road to Amman Road. Turn left on Amman and the school is on the right at the corner of Bulverde and Amman. Meet at the City Hall parking lot in downtown Cibolo. From I-35 North, turn right on FM 3009 (Roy Richard Drive, exit 175) to FM 78; turn left and then left again on Main Street in Cibolo. City Hall is just off of Highway 78. Contact: Jeannette Burris: 361/701/5369

Sunday, May 29, 8:00 am, Kendalia - Crabapple Ride (N) [R to H] Routes of 35 and 52 miles.
Either ride the magnificent County Road 101 to Blanco and tackle the challenging Crabapple Hill or take some equally pretty and somewhat flatter options. Please note that this is a beautiful but HILLY RIDE! Meet at the Kendalia Public Library on FM 473 across the street from the Volunteer Fire Department and at the corner of FM 473 and Crabapple Road. Take Hwy 281 North 26 miles, and go left for 7 miles on FM 473 to Kendalia. This is a 45-minute drive from Hwy 281 and Loop 1604. Contact: Bernard Krause, 210/240-6717

This is a fairly flat, pretty, and ultra-easy to navigate ride. Meet at the "Park n' Ride" on the Southwest corner of the Texas Hwy 181/1604 intersection. Easy to get to either via Loop 1604 South to Hwy 181, or 281 or the 410 Loop to I-37 and then the Floresville exit to Hwy 181. Contact: Ed Shadrock, 210/392-9996
